Darlee

"I knew joining Seeds of Hope would be good for me as it would encourage me to continue talking about social issues I am passionate about."

What is your name, how old are you, and where are you from?

My name is Darlee, I’m 22 and I’m from Donaghadee, County Down. I graduated from Ulster University in July 2025 in Health and Social Care Policy.

What interests, experiences, or causes are you particularly passionate about?

I have been involved in many social projects, on topics including Mental Health, Ending Violence Against Women and Girls, and Peace and Conflict Resolution.

What hobby or interest do you have that best reflects who you are as a person?

I am a huge theatre fan, and can often be found booking new shows to go see. I also love reading, and am quickly running out of room for the shelves I've filled. I read any genre but especially love anything with a mystery in it, and pride myself on trying to solve it before the reveal.

What is your current background, and how did you become involved in the Seeds of Hope programme?

I was put forward for Seeds of Hope by Ryan Shaw from Youth Action NI, after being in his Peace of Youth Minds group. I knew joining Seeds of Hope would be good for me as it would encourage me to continue talking about social issues I am passionate about.

What have you enjoyed most about the Seeds of Hope programme?

I love being a part of Seeds of Hope, and particularly enjoy the sessions that have allowed us to bond as a group, such as sharing Peacebuilders in our lives and their impact on us, and the fun moments like West African drumming with Beyond Skin. I’ve made good friends during the programme and feel lucky we had the opportunity to meet.

Has the Seeds of Hope programme influenced your direction, outlook, or mindset in any way? If so, how?

During Seeds of Hope, I started my employment with Youth Action NI. I think the work I’ve done in sessions, and the support I’ve received from the group, was a great encouragement to believe in my ability to take on the job. I already was an outspoken person who believed in the need for change, but since joining Seeds of Hope, I have become more aware of the direction I want to take and how I can help in making that change.
